Vian Wolverines whip Eufaula to christen newly-laid turf
By David Seeley Sports Editor

Things could not have gone any better for the Vian Wolverines, who were last year’s Class 2A, Division II state runners-up, in the season opener Friday night as they not only routed the visiting Eufaula Ironheads 41-7 but they also got to play their first game on the newly-laid turf at St. John Stadium.

The Wolverines (10) jumped out to a 22-0 lead after a quarter, which became a 28-0 advantage at halftime, a 35-0 third-quarter lead and a 41-0 advantage with 6:30 left to play.

Vian’s duo of Draighton Fletcher and Masyn Wright combined for 274 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Fletcher had 143 yards rushing and scored on TD runs of 41, 34 and 49 yards, while Wright amassed 131 yards rushing and two touchdown runs of 27 and 36 yards.

Vian’s other TD came through the air as quarterback Cash Trammel connected with former Eufaula Ironhead Ledger Folsom on a 9-yard touchdown pass on the final play of the first quarter.

All total, the Wolverines amassed 451 yards of offense, while only allowing the Ironheads (0-1) a total of 158 yards of offense.

The Wolverines will hit the road for their next game as they will face the Kiefer Trojans at 7 p.m. next Friday in Kiefer.

••• To Get There — Take Interstate 40 west to Henryetta. Take U.S. 75 north to Glenpool. Take Oklahoma State Highway 67 west to Kiefer.
