The Vian Board of Education met in regular session on Dec. 8, approving financial items, personnel actions and staff compensation for the upcoming school year.
During superintendent and principal reports, the board recognized the Game Day State Champion cheerleaders and their coaches.
Administrators also discussed needed roof repairs on the district’s quad-plex and field house.
In financial business, the board approved payroll, encumbrances and warrants for all funds. General Fund encumbrances numbered 269 through 283 totaled $43,251.54, while Building Fund Encumbrance 16 totaled $1,200.
The board also approved several fund transfers, including $50.23 from the junior class to interest due to unauthorized use of Sam’s Cash, $533 from wrestling to high school pop from a wrestling T-shirt fundraiser, and $1,087 from the Touchdown Club to high school pop for the purchase of team shirts.
Board members approved the minutes from the November regular and special meetings, with board president Jeff Cotner abstaining.
In a unanimous vote, the board approved recruiting and retention stipends for all staff for the 2025-26 school year. Members also unanimously adopted policies and procedures related to Indicator 10, addressing disproportionate representation of racial and ethnic groups in special education disability categories.
The board accepted the resignation of Chris Locust, custodian.
Following that action, the board convened in executive session to discuss personnel matters, specifically the employment of a custodian. After returning to open session, the board unanimously approved the employment of Lacie Frederick as custodian.
