It was a Senior Night domination by the Vian High School wrestling teams as they handled Stilwell last Thursday night at B.J. Traw Gymnasium.
The Wolverines downed the Indians 42-11, thanks to winning seven of the nine matches, and taking the wins in three of the five matches in which wrestlers competed.
Dradyn Harrison (pinfall happening at 3:16 in the match), Adoff Stahl (3:23) and Garritt Hunt (40 seconds) won their respective match by pinfall The other four victories for the Wolverines (5-6) over the Indians (0-10) were by forfeits by Kalvin Andrade, Carter Madsen, Jace Huff and Justice Conpean.
The Lady Wolverines (2-0) won all three matches from the Lady Indians (1-3) by pinfall.
Leila Cheater (pinfall happening at 3:16 in the match), Aubrey Gant (3:44) and Carmen Rautenberg (19 seconds) pinned their respective Stilwell opponents.
Three exhibition matches took place, with Vian winning two of them. Joely Hunt beat Mona Freeman and Brinlee Wooten defeated Jaelyn Unger, with both Lady Wolverines getting their respective victories by pinfall.
The Lady Wolverines were slated to compete Monday and Tuesday in the Class 5A Regional Tournament, where the top five wrestlers in each weight class automatically qualify for the Class 5A State Tournament, which will be Feb. 26-28 at O.G.&E. Pavilion in Oklahoma City, a.k.a. “The ‘New’ Big House.”
The Wolverines, along with the Gore Pirates, will compete in the Class 3A Regional Tournament, which will be this Friday and Saturday in Blackwell. The top five wrestlers in each weight class automatically qualify for the Class 3A State Tournament, which will be Feb. 2628 at O.G.&E. Pavilion.
