A domestic disturbance involving a firearm led to a temporary shutdown of a portion of U.S. Highway 64 between Vian and Gore last Tuesday evening.
According to dispatch reports from Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) Troop C, troopers were notified at about 6:13 p.m. of a domestic situation involving a male subject reportedly inside a residence with a firearm.
OHP Trooper Elijah Crist advised dispatch he was en route to assist Sequoyah County authorities. Troopers Brice Earls, Steven Crooks and Lt. Kane Wyatt also responded to the scene.
At 6:17 p.m., Trooper Crist requested that the highway be shut down between South 4500 Road and South 4505 Road as law enforcement worked the incident.
The roadway remained closed while officers secured the area.
At around 6:29 p.m., dispatch was advised that one individual had been detained. By 6:30 p.m., county authorities were in the process of securing the residence, though the highway remained closed.
One lane of traffic reopened at 6:53 p.m. The roadway was closed for a total of 36 minutes, from 6:17 p.m. to 6:53 p.m.
All troopers cleared the scene shortly before 7 p.m., and the highway was fully reopened.
