CASC softball team splits first four games of season
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Carl Albert State College Lady Vikings got their 2026 softball season underway last weekend by splitting their first four games at home in Poteau.

Both wins came over Southwest Tennessee as the Lady Vikings won 17-15 last Friday thanks to a three-run seventhinning, walk-off home run by G Clark. Then, last Saturday, the Lady Vikings beat SW Tennessee 21-19 as they broke a 19-all tie on Phaedra Smith’s walkoff two-run homer.

The two losses last weekend came to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa as the Lady Mavericks beat the Lady Vikings 13-5 in five innings on Friday and 15-1 in five innings on Saturday.

In Friday’s win over SW Tennessee, former Vian Lady Wolverine Kala Gibbins went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored, while getting a single in six at-bats and scoring a run in Saturday’s victory over SW Tennessee.

In both losses to NOC-Tonkawa, Gibbins singled in each contest and scored the only run in Saturday’s game for the Lady Vikings (2-2).

The Lady Vikings were slated to return to action Tuesday afternoon with a home doubleheader against Central Baptist College, then will have a busy end to the week with two games this Friday — at 11 a.m. against Seminole State College and at 1:30 p.m. against Crowder College — and two games this Saturday — at 1:30 p.m. against NOC-Enid and at 4 p.m. against Rose State College.
