Support Blackgum and other local firefighters

All local volunteer fire departments are in need of more firefighters and the support of their communities.

This is a time-consuming dedication of young men and women who donate their time and energy to protect our communities, and they need our support.

Blackgum Fire Department (BFD) is urging all residents to join the membership of your local fire department. Not only are you supporting your fire department, but this helps to keep your insurance down.

BFD covers an area of three square miles. There are three station houses and a training center. This is a volunteer organization founded in 1987.

Membership dues at this time are only $48 per year. This can be paid once a year to the department or $4 per month to Cookson Hills Electric on your monthly bill.

If paying through the electric company, contact Cookson Hills Electric and sign up with them. Members should check their bills periodically to make sure they are paying members.

All volunteer fire departments need more firemen. please consider joining and helping your communities. These are the requirements to join: – Be at least 18 years of age – Have a valid driver’s license – Be healthy and in good physical condition – Complete basic fire and EMS training – Live in close proximity to the fire district – Have a clean criminal record – Meet the minimum ongoing training requirements – Respond to a certain percentage of calls.

The BFD also uses their training center as a rental. This is a 10,000 square foot building perfect for reunions, weddings, funerals and any large gathering.

Call 918-705-0336 or 918-316-6607 for more information.
