The Webbers Falls Warriors took the first step toward making the Class A, Division II State Tournament as they swept the Keota Lions by scores of 10-8 and 7-3 to win the district tournament last Thursday at Eual Carter Sports Complex.
The Warriors (16-11) will play in the Class A, Division II Regional Tournament beginning this Thursday at Cameron. They will meet Sterling at 1:30 p.m., then ei- ther face host Cameron or Depew later in the day. The regional title game is slated for 6:30 p.m. Friday, with the ifgame at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Only the regional champion will advance to next week’s Class A, Division II State Tournament.
The Warriors began last week with an 8-7 road loss at Quinton on April 20.
In the loss to Quinton, the Savages broke a 7-all tie with a run in the fifth inning.
In defeat, Thadan Yandell was 2-for-3 with his first home run of the season and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.
Trysten Wilbourn (25) took the loss in relief, going two innings with a strikeout. Hayden Stephens got the start and went the first two innings with two strikeouts.
In the first districttournament win over Keota, a three-run fourth inning rallied the Warriors to the comefrom- behind victory. For the game, Wilbourn singled witty three runs batted in and a run scored, while Clayton Roberts singled with an RBI and a run scored.
Brutus Robinson (61), who reached the 200-strikeout mark for his prep career last week, got the win, going the first 5.2 innings with 11 strikeouts. Gunner Shelby got his first save of the season, going the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.
In the district-title clinching victory over Keota, a four-run sixth inning broke a 3-all tie for the Warriors.
For the game, Shelby singled and scored twice, Rocky Greenfield singled and scored once and Stephens singled for Webbers Falls.
Shelby (6-2) got the win, going five innings with nine Ks. Wilbourn went the final two innings with three strikeouts.
