Town of Vian attorney accepts another position
By AMIE CATO-REMER Editor,

MC Nutrition Service agreement tabled

The Town of Vian held its regular meeting on July 17, at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, with all trustees present, ensuring a quorum was achieved.

During the meeting, attendees were notified that Larry Vickers would no longer represent the Town of Vian as town attorney, as he has accepted a position with the Muskogee County District Attorney’s Office, effective Sept. 1, 2023.

One of the key items on the agenda was the approval of an agreement between the town and MC Nutrition Service, which was tabled for further discussion at a later date. Another significant topic was the decision to surplus vacant lots owned by the town/Vian Public Works Authority (VPWA), with the board of trustees ultimately taking no action on the matter.

A financial move to transfer $160,000 from the town’s sanitation savings account for the purchase of a 9-month CD through Armstrong Bank was made, and this motion was carried successfully. Furthermore, the council voted to transfer $300,000 from the town’s special sales tax savings account for a similar purpose, again resulting in a successful outcome.

In financial matters, the council agreed to move eligible deposit accounts into a money manager account through Armstrong Bank, securing further funds in a prudent manner.

The trustees also deliberated and approved the audit engagement letter from Robert St. Pierre, CPA, PC, for the audit year ending June 30, 2023, demonstrating their commitment to transparency and accountability.

The meeting continued with the acceptance of reports from various departments. The police report regarding citations and budget, as well as the fire report detailing fire runs, firefighter attendance, water usage, and budget, were all accepted by the board.

Additionally, the sanitation, street and parks report, encompassing current and upcoming projects, along with budget reports, was also accepted.

The treasurer’s report, which included prior meeting minutes, the fuel report, and purchase orders, was approved by the trustees, signifying their confidence in the town’s financial management. The regular meeting of the Town of Vian adjourned at 7:15 pm.

During the VPWA meeting, the trustees unanimously voted to approve the employment of Raychel Girty and the treasurer’s report, before adjourning at 7:47 p.m.

This news story is based on the unofficial minutes from the board meeting and could be in error if the minutes are changed prior to adoption.
