Police chief says perpetrators will be held accountable
Some street signs were reportedly vandalized in Vian town limits on Jan. 31, according to the Vian Police Department.
“The town goes to great lengths to protect its citizens, and we’ve had a recent trend of vandalism to our street signs,” Vian Police Chief Mark Harkins said.
Harkins said each sign costs the town hundreds of dollars to replace.
“And, that doesn’t include the labor to remove and reinstall new ones,” he said. “Also, if any accidents or fatalities occur as a result of this vandalism, once the individuals are caught, they will be criminally and civilly liable.”
Harkins said if the perpetrators are found to be juveniles, the parents would be held liable.
“This is costing tax payers money and creating a very unsafe situation,” Harkins reported.
