Webbers Falls Lady Warriors go 1-2 in Riverside Conference Tournament

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors went 1-2 in Fridays Riverside Conference Tournament, which took place Friday at Stigler.

The Lady Warriors nipped their next-door neighbors, the Gore Lady Pirates, 4-3, but then lost 9-1 to Porum and 7-6 to Okay to be eliminated from the tournament.

After being rained out April 1 at McCurtain, the Lady Warriors split their two road games April 2 at Crowder, beating Haileyville 9-5 but losing to the host Demonettes 8-5.

In the tournament win over Gore, the Lady Warriors (3-10) broke a 1-all tie with a three-run third inning for a 4-1 lead. The Lady Pirates scored twice in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3 but got no closer.

For the game, Bentley Ward was 2-for-3 for Webbers Falls.

In the tournament loss to Porum, the Lady Panthers scored five runs in the first inning for a 5-0 lead and were never headed.

In defeat, Lextyn Chappell was 3-for-3, while Bentley Ward was 2-for-2 for Webbers Falls. Laina Colston took the loss.

In the tournament loss to Okay, the Lady Mustangs rallied from a 3-1 first-inning deficit with six-run second inning to take a 7-3 lead. The Lady Warriors scored three runs in their half of the inning but got no closer.

For the game, Chappell was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while Bentley Ward was 2-for-2 for Webbers Falls.

In the win over Haileyville, Webbers Falls used a four-run fifth inning to help the Lady Warriors get the comefrom- behind win. The rally was sparked by backto-back singles by Chappell and Karla Bonilla, then Maddy Raskey, Grade Sturgell and Bentley Ward each got RBI hits — with Ward’s hit being the game-winner.

In the loss to Crowder, the Demonettes rallied from a 5-4 deficit with a four-run sixth inning to get the come-frombehind win.

In defeat, Sturgell was 3-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored, Chappell was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Bonilla was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Savannah Frazier was 2-for-4, Bentley Ward was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Bailey Ward was 2-for-2 and Ricki Frazier was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Webbers Falls. Bentley Ward took the loss.

After the Lady Warriors play a road game Monday at Arkoma and a road game Tuesday at Vian, the Lady Warriors will play in a road threeway beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday at Warner with Porum. Next week, the Lady Warriors will travel for a road game at Gans before getting ready for the Class 2A District Tournament at the end of next week.
