Heartbreak end to baseball season for Webbers Falls Warriors
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The 2024 baseball season came to a heartbreaking end for the Webbers Falls Warriors on Friday in the Class A District Tournament at Drumright.

All that was separating the Warriors from this week’s Class A Regional Tournament was a win, and it never happened as the Tornadoes stormed past the Warriors in both title games by scores of 7-3 ad 12-6 to see their season come to a crashing halt.

The Warriors, who end the season at 18-9, put themselves a win away from the regional tournament with a 9-8 victory over Liberty and a 20-7 rout of Drumright on Thursday.

The regular season ended with a 14-5 road win over Canadian on April 15.

In the first district title game, the Tornadoes broke a scoreless tie with a four-run second inning. The Warriors cut the deficit to 4-3 after three innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Maddux Shelby was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, while Luke Pierce was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Braydan Robinson (41) suffered his first loss of the season, despite fanning six batters in a seven-inning complete game outing.

In the winner-takeall game, the Tornadoes rallied from a 4-1 thirdinning deficit as a fourrun third inning and a five-run fourth inning put Drumright ahead for good at 10-4.

In defeat, Shelby hit a solo home run, Brutus Robinson singled and scored twice and Aiden Turley singled for Webbers Falls.

Pierce (0-1) suffered the loss, going the first 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Maddux Shelby went the next two innings with a strikeout, then Ryan Cowan got the final two outs, one of which was by strikeout.

In the win over Liberty, the Warriors used an eight-run seventh inning to rally from being down 8-1 as Brutus Robinson was walked with two outs and the bases loaded, forcing home Preston Rowe with the game-winning run.

For the game, Maddux Shelby doubled with two runs scored and an RBI, Blake Rowe singled with two RBIs and a run scored, Stryker Chappell and Gunner Shelby each singled with a run scored and Pierce singled with an RBI and a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Brutus Robinson (70) got the win, going all seven innings with 10 Ks.

In the victory over Drumright to put the Warriors into the district finals, a 10-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status for Webbers Falls.

For the contest, Maddux Shelby was 4-for-5 with a homer and nine RBIs, while Turley was 3-for-6 with two runs scored and an RBI for the Warriors.

Chappell (4-1) got the six-inning, completegame win, getting four strikeouts.

In the regular-season finale win over Canadian, Webbers Falls used six pitchers who combined on a one-hitter. Maddux Shelby (1-0) got his first win of the season, going two innings with two strikeouts. Gunner Shelby got two Ks in relief, while Brutus Robinson, Trysten Wilbourn and Cowan each had a strikeout apiece in their relief outings.

A three-run second inning put the Warriors (16-7) ahead 3-0 and a seven-run fifth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Braydan Robinson was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a run batted in, Chappell was 2-for-3 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Gunner Shelby doubled with an RBI and a run scored, Preston Rowe doubled with an RBI and two runs scored and Maddux Shelby tripled with two runs scored and an RBI for the Warriors.
