The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced that Corey R. Pettit, 31, of Marble City, has been sentenced to 50 months imprisonment for illegally possessing ammunition as a prohibited person.

The charge arose from an investigation by the Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

On Sept. 14, 2023, Pettit pleaded guilty to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition. According to investigators, on Dec. 14, 2022, Pettit fired upon a parked vehicle, striking it twice. Ballistics technicians confirmed that a spent .25 casing recovered from the crime scene was a match to spent .25 casings retrieved from Pettit’s home.

At the time of the crime, Pettit knew he had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by a term of imprisonment exceeding one year.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma presided over the sentencing hearing. Pettit will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.
