Sequoyah County is home to lovers of the outdoors, and these outdoorsy people have many scenic destinations to explore. One such destination is Armstrong Park in Vian.

The park consists of many trail loops surrounding the Vian City Lake. The main trail loop is approximately two miles — great for pros and amateurs alike — right around the lake. The beauty of the lake, greenery, wildlife, and paths forged in nature entices many members of the community.

These trails summon athletes of all areas of life; whether you are a runner, bike rider, hiker, or walker, there is an abundance of nature to explore. While Armstrong Park is great for everyday ventures, it is also a host to many events in the city of Vian. Two such events are the annual Lake Vian trial run and trail ride.

Every year hundreds of community mem-bers of the county come out to run, walk, or ride their bikes for five kilometers. This year the event is happening on August 17.

Lake Vian also hosts an annual hilltop run for those up for more of a challenge. This event offers anything from a four mile run to a 100 mile run! These trails are utilized to encourage people’s passions of exercise and the outdoors alike.

Vian provides a hidden gem of endless activities to Sequoyah County with Armstrong Park. Whether it be having a family picnic at the handicap-accessible picnic tables, trying your luck at catching fish on the fishing pier, taking an exciting walk across the swinging bridge, or having a boat day on the water right off of the boat ramp, there are so many opportunities for making memories. You don’t have to be an athlete to enjoy the wonders of Oklahoma nature.
