MUSKOGEE — The Vian Wolverines got their final tune-up for the 2024 season last Thursday night in their final preseason scrimmage against the host Hilldale Hornets and the Grove Ridgerunners.
The Wolverines beat the Ridgerunners 7-6 as the Vian TD came on a 54-yard run by Draighton Fletcher. In Vian’s 7-0 victory over the Hornets, the Wolverines hit paydirt once on a 4-yard touchdown run by Masyn Wright.
Vian coach Gary Willis was fairly pleased with his offensive and defensive units.
“Overall, it was a good scrimmage,” Willis said. “I was really proud of our execution. We did a decent job. We just need to crank it up a little bit. We did good in special teams.”
The biggest concern Willis saw came in the intensity level.
“We were flat,” Willis said. “The intensity level wasn’t exactly where I wanted it.”
The Wolverines will begin their 2024 season at 7 p.m. this Friday at Eufaula.
