Webbers Falls Lady Warriors go 2-2 in RCT after losing twice to Leflore
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors went 2-2 in the 2024 Riverside Conference Tournament, which took place Thursday at Stigler Sports Complex after beginning last week with a pair of road losses to the Leflore Lady Savages.

The Lady Warriors lost 7-4 to the Gore Lady Pirates in the opening round of the RCT on Thursday morning, then staved off elimination with a 6-5 win over the coop Cameron-Arkoma team and a 5-3 victory against McCurtain. However, for the second time on the day, the Lady Pirates bested the Lady Warriors as Gore prevailed 13-4 to knock out Webbers Falls from the tournament.

Last week started with a pair of road losses to the Lady Savages on Sept. 3 by scores of 14-2 and 15-6.

In the loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates scored three runs in the first inning and twice in the third inning for a 5-0 lead. The Lady Warriors (3-12) cut their deficit to 5-3 with a three-run third inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Katie Frazier doubled and scored once for Webbers Falls.

Rhilee Jones (3-10) took the loss, despite fanning four batters in three innings.

In the win over Cameron-Arkoma, a three-run fourth inning rallied the Lady Warriors to the comefrom- behind victory.

For the game, Lextyn Chappell was 2-for-2 with two doubles and three runs scored, Bridgette Baer was 2-for-3 with a triple, an inside-the-park, tworun home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored, Karla Bonilla was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, Bentley Ward was 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI and Bailey Ward was 2-for-2 for Webbers Falls.

Jones got her second win of the season, striking out four batters in four innings and throwing a five-hitter.

In the victory over McCurtain, the Lady Warriors scored twice in the opening inning for a 2-0 lead. After the Lady Bulldogs cut their deficit to 2-1 in the second inning, the Lady Warriors scored once in the third inning and twice in the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead.

For the game, Baer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Bailey Ward was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Jones got her third victory of the fall as she struck out five batters in four innings and scattered four hits.

In the tournamentending loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates put away the game early with a 10-run first inning.

Gore pitcher Cheyenne Davidson threw a two-hitter as the only blemishes against her were a single apiece by Chappell and Gracie Sturgell.

Jones suffered the loss as she fanned two batters in two innings.

In the first loss to Leflore, the Lady Savages broke a scoreless tie with a nine-run second inning. After the Lady Warriors cut their deficit to 9-2 in the third inning, the Lady Savages put the game into run-rule status with a five-run third inning.

In defeat, Bonilla was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Ricki Frazier doubled and scored once for Webbers Falls.

Jones suffered the loss, despite fanning two batters in three innings.

In the nightcap, the Lady Savages broke a 2-all tie with a six-run second inning to take an 8-2 lead after two innings.

The Lady Warriors cut their deficit to 10-6 after a three-run fourth inning, but a five-run fourth inning for Leflore put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Baer was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, while Kendra Kimble was 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored for Webbers Falls. Bentley Ward (0-2) took the loss.
