Gore Lady Pirates go 2-2 in I-40 Classic after pitcher no-hits Graham-Dustin
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Gore Lady Pirates went 2-2 in the I-40 Softball Classic this past weekend after getting two wins on Sept. 10 — featuring a no-hitter by pitcher Cheyenne Davidson The Lady Pirates defeated Roland 3-0 but lost 4-0 to Checotah on Friday in the I-40 Softball Classic in Roland, then beat Vian 5-3 after falling 3-2 to Keys on Saturday.

The week started in fine fashion on Sept. 10 for the Lady Pirates as they blanked Graham-Dustin 14-0 behind Davidson’s no-hitter before getting past Wilson (Henryetta) 8-5.

Gore’s game on Sept. 9 vs. Weleetka was canceled.

In the win over Roland, the Lady Pirates (11-8) scored twice in the third inning and once in the fifth inning.

Davidson (11-8) threw a six-inning fivehitter with four strikeouts.

For the game, Sophie O’Connor doubled for Gore.

In the loss to Checotah, Checotah pitcher Shaelynn Casey threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts.

The Lady Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning for a 3-0 lead, which was more than enough run support for Casey.

Kennedy Williams singled for the only hit for Gore.

Davidson took the loss, despite four Ks in five innings. However, all four Checotah runs were unearned due to four Gore errors.

In the win over Vian, the Lady Pirates rallied for the come-frombehind victory with a three-run fourth inning and a two-run fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Lady Wolverines scored once in their half of the fifth innings, but the rally fell short.

For the game, O’Connor, Williams, Davidson and Emily Daily each singled for Gore. Williams and Davidson each had a run batted in.

Davidson got the win, recording three strikeouts in five innings.

In the loss to Keys, the Lady Cougars broke a 2-all tie with a run in the fourth inning.

In defeat, River Shoemake singled for Gore’s only hit.

Davidson took the loss, despite four strikeouts in three innings.

On Sept. 10, the Lady Pirates got a pair of home wins to get last week started on a high note.

In the win over Graham- Dustin, Davidson threw a no-hitter with six strikeouts in three innings.

The Lady Pirates put away the game with a 10-run first inning.

For the contest, Daily was 2-for-2 with a tworun, inside-the-park home run, three runs batted in and three runs scored, Maddison Douglass was 2-for-2 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored and Williams hit a two-run, inside-the-park homer and scored twice for Gore.

In the victory over Wilson (Henryetta), the Lady Pirates rallied from a 1-0 first-inning deficit with a five-run second inning to take a 5-1 lead after two innings. After the Lady Tigers cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fourth inning, the Lady Pirates scored three runs in their half of the frame to increase their advantage to 8-4 after four innings.

For the game, Shoemake was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Peyton Curran doubled with an RBI and a run scored and Ricki Huckbay doubled and scored once for Gore.

Davidson got the win, fanning three batters in five innings.
