Vian Lady Wolverines end week with district win over Spiro after falling to Central
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Vian Lady Wolverines ended last week on a high note as they got a home District 3A-8 victory over the Spiro Lady Bulldogs by the score of 10-6 on Thursday afternoon at Armstrong Park.

The win over Spiro helped take the bad taste out of the Lady Wolverines’ mouth with what happened to begin last week — a 14-2 setback to the Central Lady Tigers on Sept. 16 at Armstrong Park.

In the win over Spiro, the Lady Wolverines (11-14 overall, 8-4 in district play) broke a 4-all tie with a six-run fourth inning, thanks in part to Hanna Mattingly’s three-run home run. For the game, Rayleigh Terrill was 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored, Kala Gibbins was 2-for-4 with a double and three runs scored, Halli Russell was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs batted in and a run scored, Aubrey Craighead was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Mattingly hit a three-run homer for Vian.

Gibbins (11-14) got the win, fanning nine batters in seven innings.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers wasted little time in getting going, scoring twice in the first inning, three runs in the second inning and two more runs in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. After the Lady Wolverines cut their deficit to 7-2 after three innings, a seven-run fourth inning for Central put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Hanna Mattingly tripled with an RBI, Rebel Simon tripled and scored once, Rayleigh Terrill singled and scored and Lakoeta Cheater singled for Vian.

Kala Gibbins suffered the loss, despite getting six Ks in four innings.
