Central Tigers handle Allen Mustangs to set up district showdown at Gore
By David Seeley Sports Editor

ALLEN — The Central Tigers continued their winning ways as they handled the Allen Mustangs 41-8 in last Friday night’s District AII-3 game.

The Tigers (5-3 overall, 4-1 in district play) has now set up a district showdown contest against the Gore Pirates (5-3, 3-2) at 7 p.m. this Friday at Central’s Tiger Stadium. The winner of the game will clinch a Class A, Division II playoff berth.

“It’s a big district game for both teams,” Central coach Jeremy Thompson said. “We’re both fighting for good playoff positions and try to be as high as we can in district play. It’s a big district game for both of us.”

The Tigers took a 14-0 lead after a quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Braxin Goodson to Xhaiden Mosby, which was capped by a two-point conversion pass from Goodson to Dillon Miller, and a 5-yard TD run by Goodson.

The Tigers put away the game in the second quarter, scoring three touchdowns, two of them TD passes from Goodson — a pair of 55-yarders, one to Gavin Randolph and a second one to Mosby. The first of the three second-period TDs was Goodson’s 46-yard scamper. Zach Comer hit all three extra points for a 35-0 halftime lead for the locals.

Dillon Miller’s 8-yard touchdown run in the third quarter capped Central’s scoring.

“Both sides of the ball played well,” Thompson said. “We got off to a good start offensively and defensively. I’m definitely happy with this outcome, and we’re ready for another big one this Friday.”

For the game, Goodson rushed for 170 yards and two touchdowns, while passing for an additional 217 yards and three more TDs., Dillon Miller rushed for 45 yards and a touchdown while catching two passes for 30 yards. Mosby hauled in three passes for 101 yards and two TDs, while Randolph caught two passes for 65 yards and a touchdown.
