Vian Wolverines beat Beggs in state quarterfinals, to face Colcord in Friday night’s state semifinals at Wagoner

The final home football game of the 2024 season for the Vian Wolverines ended the same way the previous six home games did — victorious.

The Wolverines kept their perfect record intact with a 35-7 Class 2A, Division II state quarterfinal win over the Beggs Golden Demons last Friday night at St. John Stadium.

The win advanced the Wolverines (12-0) into the state semifinals, where they will meet the Colcord Hornets (11-1) at 7 p.m. this Friday at Wagoner.

Masyn Wright got the scoring going with a 6-yard touchdown run with 1:30 left in the first quarter. Mikayah Mendoza’s extra point gave Vian a 7-0 after a period.

Draighton Fletcher scored the first of his two TDs with 8:39 left before halftime on a 1-yard run. Mendoza’s PAT doubled Vian’s advantage to 14-0.

Wright scored his second touchdown of the first half on a 5-yard run. Mendoza’s extra point put Vian ahead 21-0 w2ith 6:32 remaining in the first half.

The Golden Demons (9-3) scored with 3:52 left in the first half to cut the Vian lead to 21-7 at halftime.

Jacob Brannick scored Vian’s lone TD in the third quarter on a 54-yard touchdown pass from Cash Trammel with 2:29 left in the third quarter. Mendoza’s PAT gave Vian a 28-7 lead going into the final period.

Fletcher scored his second touchdown of the game on a 3-yard TD run with 11:57 left to play. Mendoza’s extra point was good.

For the game, Wright rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns, while Fletcher had 126 yards rushing and two TDs.
