Former Vian softball player ready for DII softball at OBU
By David Seeley Sports Editor

After playing the last two seasons at Eastern Oklahoma State College in WIlburton, former Vian Lady Wolverine softball player Greenlee Wells is ready for the next step — playing NCAA Division II softball for the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison.

“I am very anxious for this season to begin,” Wells said. “I am a junior in college and have been playing college ball for the past few years, and the anxiousness never settles.”

Now that she is a Bison, Wells said she is prepared to live out a dream.

“Getting to play for Oklahoma Baptist University has always been a dream of mine,” said Wells, whose first OBU season will begin Jan. 31-Feb. 2 with six games in Branson, Mo., against Emporia State, Maryville University, Drury University, Southwest Baptist University, Upper Iowa University and Missouri Southern. “I have always wanted to make it to the next level, and God has given me the ability to do that. So to say I am anxious to play for the OBU Bison is an understatement.”

It has been an adjustment from JUCO softball to Division II softball for the former Lady Wolverine.

“The transition from EOSC to OBU has been different,” Wells said. “You know, coming from a JUCO to a Division II is different. There are so many different rules when being at the higher level. But for me, I am here to serve the Lord for and for most, and I am here to get an education. So for me, the transition was not huge.”

However, Wells said being a Lady Mountaineer as a freshman and a sophomore has helped her prepare for her junior and senior seasons as a Bison.

“EOSC helped me prepare for the next two years at OBU because it helped me mature, not only as an athlete, but as a person, too,” she said. “It opened my eyes and showed me how college really is.”

Whether she gets to be in the starting line-up or comes off the bench, just playing softball for the OBU Bison is a thrill.

“To me, being in the starting line-up doesn’t matter,” Wells said. “Yes, I would love to start and I would love to play, but our team is full of athletes. We are all very even. So, starting or not starting, I am just very thankful to be on this team.”
