Gore Pirates enjoy 3-0 week; Lady Pirates go 2-1

The Gore Pirates basketball team had a perfect week last week, winning all three games played — 62-34 over Keota on Feb. 4 at Keota and winning both home games at Gore Event Center, winning 62-35 over Webbers Falls on Friday night and 53-46 over Hulbert on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Pirates came close to having a perfect week, going 2-1 last week after they beat Keota 47-17 on Feb. 4 at Keota and defeated Webbers Falls 51-24 on Friday night at home. Their only blemish was a 57-31 loss to Hulbert on Saturday afternoon at home.

In the boys’ win over Keota, the Pirates (166 overall, 6-1 in Riverside Conference play) jumped out to a 10-4 lead after a quarter, which became a 25-14 halftime advantage and a 41-30 lead going into the final period.

For the game, Cain Cooper led Gore with 28 points, followed by Tate Brooksher with 13 points, Eli Munson with 11 points, Keeton Rowe with six points and Ayden Cox and Cruz Ward with two points apiece.

In the boys’ victory over Webbers Falls, the Pirates jumped out to a 21-5 lead after a period en route to a 32-10 halftime advantage and a 46-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.

For the game, Cooper scored a game-high 22 points to lead Gore, followed by Munson with nine points, Brooksher with eight points, Benson Hunt with six points, Nash Thouvenel and Duane Hunt with four points each and Cox, Rowe and Logan Markou with three points apiece.

In the boys’ win over Hulbert, the Pirates got out to a 16-7 lead after a quarter, which became a 32-15 halftime advantage and a 38-28 lead after three periods.

For the game, Gore put a trio of players into double figures as each Brooksher, Cooper and Duane Hunt had 12 points. Rowe and Munson had six points each, followed by Thouvenel with four points and Ward with a free throw.

In the girls’ victory over Keota, the Lady Pirates (7-12 overall, 4-3 in Riverside Conference play) jumped out to a 17-0 lead after a quarter and never looked back.

For the game, Rayleigh Moore led Gore with 11 points, followed by Emily Daily and River Shoemake with eight points each, Kennedy Williams with six points, Ricky Huckbay with five points, CoCo Carter with four points and Hallie Brewer and Lily Wooten with three points apiece.

In the girls’ win over Webbers Falls, the Lady Pirates had a 4-0 lead after a period en route to a 14-8 halftime advantage and a 31-17 lead after three quarters.

For the the game, Williams scored a gamehigh 16 points to lead Gore, followed by Daily with nine points, Moore with eight points, Shoemake with five points, Huckbay and Wooten with four points each, Sophie O’Connor with three points and Brewer and Carter with a free throw apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Hulbert, the Lady Riders jumped out to a 21-4 lead after a quarter and never looked back.

In defeat, Williams and Carter led Gore with nine points each, followed by Shoemake with five points, Moore with three points, Daily and O’Connor each with two points and Huckbay with a free throw.
