Vian baseball team beats Stilwell, loses to Sallisaw, Spiro
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Wolverines baseball team went 1-2 last week, with the lone win being a 14-11 victory Friday afternoon at home over Stilwell.

After the March 4 home game with Gore was rained out, the Wolverines lost 6-1 to Sallisaw at home Thursday evening, then fell 6-3 at Spiro on Saturday afternoon.

In the win over Stilwell, a 13-run sixth inning rallied the Wolverines (1-3) from a 9-1 deficit to a 14-9 lead after six innings.

For the game, Cash Collins was 3-for-3 with two doubles, his first home run of the season and three runs batted in, Riley Ellis was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Kaden Fulbright was 2-for-4 with a triple, three RBIs and a run scored and Manny Terrill doubled with three RBIs and two runs scored for Vian.

Clayton Thomas (10) got the win in relief, pitching three innings with three strikeouts. Fulbright started and only lasted an inning with two Ks. Draighton Fletcher went the next two innings with four strikeouts. Ellis got his first save of the season, pitching the seventh inning with two Ks.

In the loss to Sallisaw, the Wolverines took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Collins, but the Black Diamonds scored three runs in the fourth inning, twice in the sixth inning and once in the seventh inning to snatch away the win.

In defeat, Fletcher and Michael Polecat each singled for the only hits for the Wolverines.

Polecat (0-1) suffered the loss, going the first 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. Terrill went the next 2.2 innings with a strikeout. Jeremiah Marshall pitched the seventh inning.

In the loss to Spiro, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings.

After the Wolverines scored once in the third inning to cut the deficit to 5-1, Spiro got that run back in its half of the frame to regain a five-run lead at 6-1 after three innings.

The Wolverines scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but their rally fell short.

In defeat, Polecat was 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Fulbright was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Vian.

Fulbright (0-2) suffered the loss, despite fanning five batters in six innings.
