Webbers Falls Warriors finish fourth in own tournament
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Webbers Falls Warriors baseball team finished fourth in its own tournament this past weekend at Eual Carter Sports Complex, losing Saturday afternoon’s third-place game to the Keota Lions 12-5 in a game called due to time limit after six innings.

The Warriors lost 3-1 to Porum in Thursday night’s pool-play game, but won both Friday pool-play contests — 10-3 over Arkoma and 15-2 over Quinton.

Last week got started in fine fashion with a 16-0, three-inning road rout of the host Gans Grizzlies on March 24, then the Warriors tied the Lions 5-5 on March 25 in Keota as the game was called due to darkness as two light towers were out. Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said the game will not be resumed.

In the third-place game loss to Keota, the Lions rallied from a 4-3 first-inning deficit by scoring six runs in the second inning and twice in the fourth inning for a 11-4 lead.

In defeat, Gunner Shelby, Ryan Cowan and Zane Nolan each singled for the Warriors (5-7-1).

Elliott Kunkel (1-3) suffered the loss in relief, going two-thirds of an inning with a strikeout. Luke Pierce started and only got two outs in the first inning. Gunner Shelby finished the game, going the final 4.2 innings with seven strikeouts.

In the win over Arkoma, the Warriors broke a 1-all tie with a three-run third inning and a five-run fourth inning for a 9-1 lead.

For the game, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a run batted in, while Clayton Roberts was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Webbers Falls.

Cowan (1-1) got his first win of the season, going the first 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Kunkel got the final two outs.

In the victory over Quinton, after the Savages scored once in the opening inning, the Warriors responded with a six-run first inning for a 6-1 lead, which became a 12-2 advantage after two frames to put the contest into run-rule status.

For the game, Cowan was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored for Webbers Falls.

Trysten Wilbourn (20) threw a three-inning, one-hitter with five strikeouts.

In the win over Gans, the Warriors put away the game early with a six-run first inning. A six-run second inning and a four-run third inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Wilbourn was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and a run batted in, while Robinson doubled for Webbers Falls.

Wilbourn got the win in relief, going the final two innings with four strikeouts. Cowan started and went the opening inning with two Ks. The duo combined on a onehitter.

In the tie with Keota, the Warriors took a 4-0 lead in the opening inning, before the Lions cut their deficit in half at 4-2 in the second inning.

After the Warriors upped their advantage to 5-2 in the fifth inning, the Lions tied the game with a three-run fifth inning.

Wilbourn was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and a run batted in, while Pierce doubled with two RBIs for Webbers Falls.

Robinson pitched the first inning, getting all three outs by strikeouts. Kunkel went the next two innings with a strikeout, then Cowan pitched the next three innings with a strikeout.
