Former Vian softball player Kacie Gibbins and the Arkansas Tech University Golden Suns went 2-3 last week, but ended the week on a high note with a Great American Conference home sweep of Southern Nazarene by walkoff scores of 4-3 and 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex after losing the series opener to SNU by the score of 9-6 on Friday night.
On April 8, the Golden Suns upset 10th-ranked Harding University 2-0 at home after losing the GAC series finale 3-2 to Henderson State on April 7 in Arkadelphia, Ark.
In Saturday’s opener against SNU, Gibbins was 1-for-2 with a run scored, while going 1-for-2 with with her second triple of the season and a run scored.
In Friday’s loss to SNU, Gibbins was hitless in three at-bats but scored once.
In the upset victory over Harding, Gibbins was hitless in three atbats, while she was 1-for-3 in the GAC series finale against Henderson State.
In 46 games this season, Gibbins is hitting .329 with 13 doubles, two triples, a home run, 25 runs scored, 22 runs batted in and eight stolen bases.
Gibbins and the Golden Suns (25-21 overall, 15-12 in GAC play), who entertained Delta State in a Monday doubleheader, will hit the road for a three-game GAC series against Gibbins’ former Vian teammate, Greenlee Wells, and the Oklahoma Baptist University Bison in Shawnee, with a 6 p.m. Thursday single game and a noon Friday twinbill.
