Webbers Falls Lady Warriors go 1-2 in conference tournament
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Webbers Falls Lady Warriors went 1-2 in Friday’s Riverside Conference Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament in Stigler. They opened with a 5-4 win over Gore but then lost 6-0 to Keo-ta and 6-4 to McCurtain to be eliminated from the tournament.

Last week got started with a 9-3 road loss to McCurtain on April 7 and a 17-0, four-inning home loss to Porum on April 8 at Eual Carter Sports Complex.

In the tournamenteliminating loss to Mc-Curtain, the Lady Bulldogs scored six runs in the first inning for a 6-0 lead, then held off a sixth-inning rally by the Lady Warriors (5-13) that saw them cut the deficit to 6-4.

In defeat, Lextyn Chappell was 2-for-4, Bailey Ward was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored, Karla Bonilla was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Gracie Sturgell was 2-for-3 with a run batted in, Katie Frazier was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Bentley Ward doubled with an RBI for Webbers Falls.

Chappell (3-8) took the loss, despite recording three strikeouts.

In the tournament loss to Keota, the Lady Lions scored single runs in the first and fourth innings for a 2-0 lead, then scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the deal.

In defeat, Bridgette Baer was 2-for-3, while Shkyra Scruggs was 2-for-3 with a double for Webbers Falls. Chappell suffered the loss.

In the tournament win over Gore, the Lady Warriors scored twice in the seventh inning to snatch away the win from the jaws of defeat.

For the game, Baer was 4-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, Chappell was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, Bentley Ward was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Bonilla was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Sturgell doubled for Webbers Falls.

Chappell got the win as she got two strikeouts.

In the home loss to Porum, the Lady Panthers broke a scoreless tie with a three-run second inning and a five-run third inning for an 8-0 lead. A nine-run fourth inning put the game into run-rule status.

Porum pitcher Mesa Coulson tossed a twohitter as a single apiece from Baer and Bentley Ward was all the offense the Lady Warriors could muster. Chappell took the loss.

In the road loss to McCurtain, the Lady Bulldogs scored twice in the first inning and four runs in the second inning for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Warriors scored once in the third inning to cut the deficit to 6-1 after three innings but got no closer.

In defeat, Baer was 2-for-4 with a two-run, inside-the-park home run in the fifth inning, which was her first homer of the spring, Bailey Ward was 2-for-3 and Hobbs was 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored for Webbers Falls. Chappell suffered the loss.

The Lady Warriors found out their districttournament postseason fate on Friday from the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) as they and Quinton were sent to Rock Creek for their Class 2A District Tournament, which will be April 24-26 in Blue, which is the first town east of Durant on U.S. 70.
