Gore Lady Pirates beat Webbers Falls, lose to Vian
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Gore Lady Pirates split their two games last week, beating the Webbers Falls Lady Warriors 14-6 in six innings on April 14 at Eual Carter Sports Complex but losing 9-6 to Vian on Thursday night at Armstrong Park. In the win over Webbers Falls, the Lady Pirates (10-11), who trailed 1-0 after an inning, scored six runs in the second inning to lead 6-1. The closest the Lady Warriors got was 6-4 after a three-run third inning as Gore responded with a fourrun fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning for an 11-4 lead. A three-run sixth inning for Gore put the game into run-rule status.

For the game, Keira Rowe was 2-for-4 with a run batted in and a run scored, Maddison Douglass was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Emily Daily doubled with two runs scored and an RBI ands River Shoemake hit her second home run of the season with two RBIs and two runs scored for Gore. Mylee Bruce (1011) got the win.

In the loss to Vian, the Lady Wolverines scored four runs in the first inning and single runs in the second and fourth innings for a 6-0 lead. The Lady Pirates used a four-run fifth inning to cut their deficit to 6-4 and once again got to within two runs at 7-5 after a run in the sixth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Daily was 3-for-4 with a run scored, Sophie O’Connor was 3-for-4 with a double, Rowe was 3-for-3 with a run scored, Bruce doubled and scored twice and Maddison Douglass hit her first home run of the season, a grandslam homer in the fifth inning to cut the Vian lead to 6-4. Bruce took the loss.

The Lady Pirates will join the Central Lady Tigers as they visit the Wister Lady Wildcats this week for the Class 3A District Tournament.
