Gore Pirates end week with three-game winning streak

9-2 home loss to Central on April 14, entered Easter weekend with a three-game winning streak as they defeated Porum 6-0 on April 15 in Porum, beat Webbers Falls 13-3 in four innings at home on Thursday and outlasted the Roland Rangers 13-11 on Good Friday afternoon.

In the win over Porum, the Pirates (16-7) got a four-hitter from James Brasuell (5-2) as he struck out 17 batters in seven innings.

The Pirates scored once in the first inning, twice in the third and fifth innings and once in the seventh inning.

For the game, Tate Brooksher was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Kason Short was 2-for-3 and. Kyler McGee was 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Gore.

In the victory over Webbers Falls, the Pirates, who trailed 3-0 in the first inning, tied the game at 3-all after an inning, then put the game into run-rule status with a four-run second inning, a two-run third inning and a four-run fourth inning.

For the contest, Brasuell was 3-for-3 with two doubles, his second home run of the season, three runs batted in and three runs scored, Keeton Rowe doubled with two runs scored and McKennon McElhaney doubled with two runs scored and an RBI for Gore.

Gage Dame (3-0) got the complete fourinning game victory as he struck out five batters and threw a two-hitter.

In the win over Roland, the Pirates used a four-run first inning, a single run in the second inning and a tworun third inning for a 7-0 lead. The Rangers scored six runs in the fourth inning to cut the deficit to 7-6 after four innings, only to see the Pirates enjoy a six-run fifth inning to up their advantage to 11-6 after five innings.

For the game, Brasuell was 3-for-4 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored, Rowe was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Kyler McGee — the hero in the previous weekend’s Riverside Conference Tournament with the game-winning hit — was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored for Gore.

McElhaney (3-1) got the win, going the first five innings with five strikeouts. Colten Frye went the next 1.1 innings, then Keiden Denton got two outs in relief with one of those being a strikeout.

In the loss to Central, the Tigers broke a 2-all tie with a five-run fifth inning and a two-run seventh inning.

In defeat, Short was 2-for-2, while McGee doubled with an RBI for the Pirates.

Brooksher (3-3) suffered the loss, going the first five innings with nine Ks. McElhaney went the final two innings.
