Gore Lady Pirates’ slow-pitch softball season ends
By David Seeley Sports Editor

WISTER — The Gore Lady Pirates slow-pitch softball team saw its 2025 season end as they were eliminated from the postseason during the Class 3A District Tournament on April 21.

After losing their opener 11-3 in six innings to county rival Central, the Lady Pirates avenged that loss with a 10-0, four-inning victory that eliminated the Lady Tigers. The season ended with a 166, four-inning loss to the district-host Lady Wildcats to see their season come to a close.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a single run in the fourth inning, four runs in the fifth inning and six runs in the sixth inning for an 11-0 lead to put the game into run-rule status. The Lady Pirates (11-13) scored three runs in their half of the sixth inning but it wasn’t enough to force a seventh inning. In defeat, Mylee Bruce and Peyton Curran each were 2-for-3 for Gore.

Bruce (11-13) took the loss, despite recording four strikeouts.

In Gore’s win over Central, the Lady Pirates broke a scoreless deadlock with a 10-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Ricki Huckbay was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, Emily Daily was 2-for-3 and Maddison Douglass doubled with two RBIs and a run scored for Gore. Bruce got the win, tossing a three-hitter.

In Gore’s loss to Wister, the Lady ’Cats rallied from a 6-4 secondinning deficit with a three-run second inning, a seven-run third inning and a two-run fourth inning for a 16-6 lead to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Huckbay was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs for Gore. Bruce took the loss.
