Vian Wolverines see 20-game winning streak snapped, will be a regional host
By David Seeley Sports Editor

All good things must end, and so it was for the Vian Wolverines baseball team’s winning streak.

The Wolverines lost 10-4 to the Panama Razorbacks on April 28 at home to see their 20game winning streak snapped, which was the longest in Oklahoma.

The Razorbacks broke a 4-all tie with a six-run seventh inning.

In defeat, Michael Polecat was 2-for-4, Riley Ellis was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in and Jeremiah Marshall was 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored for the Wolverines (28-6).

Manny Terrill (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season, going the first 6.1 innings with three strikeouts. Polecat came in and got the final two outs.

Vian’s road games on April 29 at Warner, on Thursday at Howe and on Friday at Haskell were all rained out and/ or “wet-fielded” out. Only the Haskell game was slated to be made up, rescheduled for this past Monday.

The good news the Wolverines received last week was they will be a host team in a Class 2A-I Regional Tournament, which will begin Thursday.

The Wolverines will meet the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats at 11 a.m. Thursday, with a battle of Tigers following when Oktaha meets Newirk at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The two winners will meet at 4 p.m. Thursday in the winner’s-bracket final, with that winner advancing to the regional championship game at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

The Vian/Chouteau-Mazie loser and the Oktaha- Newkirk loser will play in an elimination game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, with the winner advancing to the loser’sbracket final to meet the 4 p.m. Thursday loser at 4 p.m. Friday.

The 4 p.m. Friday winner will advance to the regional title game to meet the 4 p.m. Thursday loser for the right to go to the Class 2A-I State Tournament next week.

The 4 p.m. Friday winner will not only need to win the 6:30 p.m. regional title game to force an if-game, but also win the if-game, which will be played at 2 p.m. Saturday, to make state.
