Savanna Bulldogs outlast Webbers Falls Warriors in offensive showcase
By David Seeley Sports Editor

SAVANNA — The Webbers Falls Warriors saw their three-game winning streak come to an end as they were outlasted by the Savanna Bulldogs 72-68 last Friday night.

The Warriors (3-2) trailed 22-20 after a quarter and 44-36 at halftime, but they outscored the ’Dawgs 2416 in the third quarter to tie the game at 60-all going into the final period.

The Warriors actually took a 68-66 lead midway through the fourth quarter, only to see the Bulldogs (3-2) score the game-winning TD in the waning minutes to snatch away victory from the jaws of defeat.

For the game, Brutus Robinson threw for 217 yards and 68-yard touchdown pass to Trysten Wilbourn, who also caught a 43-yard TD pass from wide receiver Gunner Shelby.

Shelby caught six passes for 159 yards, while Wilbourn caught two passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns. Wilbourn also had a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown right before halftime that cut the Webbers Falls deficit to one score before the ’Dawgs scored right before halftime to increase their advantage to 44-36 at the half.

Robinson rushed for 151 yards and four touchdowns, while Austin Barger rushed for 92 yards and two TDs. Shelby scored four two-point conversions, while Wilbourn, Barger and Robinson each scored one twopoint conversion.

“We just didn’t tackle,” Webbers Falls coach Trent Holt said. “We missed so many tackles. Their quarterback (Aiden Totani) is really good. We watched on film one of his touchdown runs, and we missed five tackles. I always tell my kids, ‘Football games are not won, they’re lost. We lost the turnover battle 2-1. We gave up a special teams touchdown. We threw a couple of picks, and we missed a ton of tackles.”

The Warriors will begin District BII-4 play with their homecoming game against the Wilson (Henryetta) Tigers at 7 p.m. this Friday at Smokey Cox Stadium.
