Vian Wolverines handle Henryetta Knights for fifth straight win
By David Seeley Sports Editor

HENRYETTA — Last year, it took a strong finish to the first half to help spark the Vian Wolverines to a runaway home win over the Henryetta Knights.

When the two teams met Thursday night, it was a complete dominating performance by the Wolverines, who clawed the Knights 4814 for not only their fifth straight victory but the Wolverines stayed undefeated in District 2AII-4 play.

The Wolverines (6-1 overall, 4-0 in district play) used a 17-yard touchdown run by Cash Trammel, who also connected with Masyn Wright for a 35-yard TD pass, as well as two extra points by Trammel, to put Vian ahead 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Draighton Fletcher’s 6-yard touchdown run and Trammel’s PAT increased Vian’s advantage to 21-0 with 11:09 left before halftime.

After the Knights (4-3, 2-2) scored their first TD of the game to cut their deficit to 21-7 with 7:12 remaining in the first half, the Wolverines needed only 12 seconds to answer as Masyn Wright scored his second touchdown of the night on a 59-yard touchdown run. Trammel’s extra point upped Vian’s lead to 28-7 with exactly seven minutes left in the first half.

Draighton Fletcher scored his first of two TDs as he hauled in a 34-yard touchdown pass from Trammel with 1:35 remaining before halftime. Trammel’s PAT put Vian ahead 35-7 at halftime.

Fletcher scored his second touchdown on a 22-yard run with 7:55 left in the third quarter. Although Trammel’s extra point missed the mark, Vian was comfortably ahead 41-7 going into the final period.

After Henryetta scored its second and final TD with 7:30 left to play, Amos Wright scored on a 12-yard touchdown run with 1:45 remaining in the game. Trammel hit the PAT.

For the game, Trammel threw for 98 yards and two touchdowns, Masyn Wright rushed for 123 yards and a TD, while Fletcher had 90 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

The Wolverines will return home to meet the Wilburton Diggers at 7 p.m. this Friday at St. John Stadium. The Diggers (6-1, 3-1) won their second straight district game last Thursday night with a 35-18 road win over Antlers.
