By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Webbers Falls Warriors ended their own Arkansas River Shootout by winning the consolation championship as they defeated the Keota Lions 33-30 on Saturday afternoon on Coach Jerry Ward Court at Webbers Falls Event Center.

The Warriors, who opened Thursday with a 64-42 loss to the Dewar Dragons in the opening round, reached the consolation title game with a 38-28 win over the Clayton Bulldogs on Friday.

The Lady Warriors opened the tournament with a 41-31 win over Clayton on Thursday, but ended up losing their final two games — 63-18 to eventual tournament champion Whitesboro in Friday night’s championship semifinals and 63-44 to Dewar in Saturday afternoon’s thirdplace game.

In the boys’ consolation finals, the Warriors (5-7) rallied from an 11-7 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lions 26-19 over the final three periods.

For the game, Yandell scored 12 points and Shelby added 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Hefflin with five points, Newcomer and Robinson with four points each and Cole with two points.

In the boys’ openinground loss to Dewar, the Dragons raced out to a 16-4 lead with 3:48 left in the first quarter en route to a 19-8 advantage after the first eight minutes. An 11-8 second period for Dewar gave the Dragons a 30-16 halftime lead, which became a 48-31 advantage after three quarters.

In defeat, Yandell scored 12 points and Cole added 11 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Robinson with nine points, Shelby with five points, Newcomer with four points and Chandler Cramer with a free throw.

In the girls’ third-place game, the Lady Dragons rallied from a 12-9 first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Warriors 23-16 in the second period to take a 32-28 halftime lead. Dewar outscored Webbers Falls 3116 in the second half to win going away.
