Webbers Falls basketball teams split home games with Midway, Kinta, suffer sweeps at the hands of Gore, Keota
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Webbers Falls High School basketball teams certainly did not take it easy last week coming off their own Arkansas River Shootout, which took place Jan. 8-10 on Coach Jerry Ward Court at Webbers Falls Event Center.

The Webbers Falls squads had four nights of basketball action last week, starting with a home split with the Midway teams as the Warriors won 58-48, but the Lady Warriors fell to Class B, Division II’s No. 13th-ranked Lady Chargers 61-26.

The locals also split home games Thursday night at home with Kinta as the Lady Warriors won 46-22, but the Warriors fell to the Eagles 5833.

The Webbers Falls teams also suffered a pair of sweeps at the hands of their opponents.

On Jan. 13, the Gore teams swept them as the Lady Pirates handled the Lady Warriors 70-12 and the Pirates won 60-22.

On Friday night, Keota’s team celebrated homecoming with a sweep of Webbers Falls as the Lions won 4634 and the Lady Lions roared their way to a 3721 victory.

In the boys’ win over Midway, the Warriors (6-10) led from start to finish, scoring the game’s first five points en route to a 14-10 lead after a quarter, which became a 31-25 halftime advantage, but the Warriors had to withstand a late rally by the Chargers to prevail.

For the game, Webbers Falls put a quartet of players into double figures, led by Eli Hefflin’s team-high 15 points, followed by Gunner Shelby’s 13 points, Thadan Yandell’s 12 points and Cason Newcomer’s 11 points. Brutus Robinson had four points, while Chevy Cole added three points.

In the girls’ loss to Midway, the Lady Chargers also led from start to finish, but the Lady Warriors (6-9), losers of three straight, kept the game close early.

A pair of free throws and a basket by Allie Patterson cut Midway’s lead to 6-4 with 4:21 left in the first quarter. Unfortunately, that was as close as Webbers Falls got.

The Lady Chargers ended the period with a 10-2 run to take a 16-6 lead after a quarter, which became a 34-14 advantage at halftime and a 50-20 lead after three quarters.

In defeat, Allie Patterson led Webbers Falls with 12 points, followed by Paizley Turley with five points, Abbie Patterson with three points and Madison Smith, Katie Frazier and Peyton Shanks with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Gore, the Pirates jumped out to a 13-4 lead after a quarter, which became a 32-15 halftime advantage and a 46-20 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Cole led the Warriors with eight points, followed by Shelby with seven points, Yandell with five points and Hefflin with two points.

In the girls’ loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates jumped out to a 24-3 lead after a quarter and never looked back as they spoiled the return of their former coach Staci Simeroth and her new team, the Lady Warriors.

In defeat, Allie Patterson and Turley each scored four points to lead the Lady Warriors, while Peyton Shanks and Abbie Patterson had two points apiece.

In the girls’ victory over Kinta, the Lady Warriors jumped out to a 16-3 lead and were never headed.

For the game, Allie Patterson led Webbers Falls with a game-high 18 points, followed by Smith and Bailey Ward with six points each, Peyton Shanks and Abbie Patterson each with four points and Frazier, Turley, Hannah Kay Mason and Hailey Shanks with two points apiece.

In the boys’ loss to Kinta, the Eagles flew out to a 12-7 lead after a quarter en route to a 2918 halftime advantage and a 46-26 lead going into the final period.

In defeat, Shelby led Webbers Falls with 12 points, followed by Robinson with seven points, Cole with six points, Newcomer with four points, Hefflin with three points and Trysten Wilbourn with a free throw.

In the boys’ loss to Keota, the Lions trailed 22-17 at halftime, but outscored the Warriors 29-14 in the second half to get the come-frombehind win.

In defeat, Yandell led Webbers Falls with 16 points, followed by Cole with eight points, Shelby with six points and Newcomer and Hefflin with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Keota, the Lady Lions rallied from a 7-6 firstquarter deficit by outscoring the Lady Warriors 31-14 over the final three periods to get the comeback victory.

In defeat, Allie Patterson scored a game-high 10 points to lead Webbers Falls, followed by Peyton Shanks with five points, Frazier with four points and Ward with two points.
