Gore teams sweep Gans, Keota, fall twice to Central, split at Hulbert
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Gore High School basketball teams were busy last week as they had four dates worth of games.

On Jan. 31 at Gore Event Center, the Gore teams swept home Riverside Conference games from Gans as the Lady Pirates downed the Lady Grizzlies 40-30, then the Pirates downed the Grizzlies 59-22. These games were snowed out on Jan. 27.

On Feb. 3, the Gore squads made it a happy homecoming by sweeping Riverside Conference rival Keota as the Pirates opened the night with an 82-30 rout of the Lions, followed by the Lady Pirates beating the Lady Lions 66-30.

Last Friday night at home, the Gore teams suffered losses to county rival Central as the Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Pirates 47-37 and the Tigers beat the Pirates 57-39.

Last Saturday afternoon, the Gore squads split road games at Hulbert as the Pirates won 66-59 but the Lady Pirates fell 60-46.

In the girls’ win over Gans, after the Lady Grizzlies clawed their way to a 6-0 lead to begin the game, the Lady Pirates (10-9) ended the first quarter with an 11-2 run to take an 11-8 lead after a period. Gore would never trail again.

For the game, Rayleigh Moore scored 12 points to lead Gore, followed by Emily Daily and Kennedy Williams with eight points each, Gracie Bruce with six points, River Shoemake with five points and Kylie “K.J.” McEver with a free throw.

In the boys’ victory over Gans, from opening jump ball until the final buzzer, the running clock was instituted for the entire game, only stopping for free-throw shooting and timeouts.

The Pirates (14-7) ended the first period on a 13-5 run to take an 1811 lead into the second quarter, which became a 31-15 halftime advantage and a 52-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

For the game, Tate Brooksher scored a game-high 20 points to lead Gore, followed by Keeton Rowe with 14 points, Eli Munson with nine points, Cain Cooper with five points, Logan Markou with four points, Kaiden Denton with three points and Cruz Ward and Jace Simmons with two points apiece.

In the boys’ homecoming victory over Keota, the Pirates made it a happy homecoming early as they jumped out to a 31-11 lead after a period to take control of the game.

For the contest, Cooper, who was the homecoming king, and Munson each scored 22 points to lead Gore, followed by Brooksher with 18 points, Rowe with seven points, Ward with four points and Denton, Gabe Hefley and Benson Hunt with three points apiece.

In the girls’ homecoming win over Keota, the Lady Pirates made it a happy homecoming as they made the Lady Lions walk the plank in their Riverside Conference game.

The Lady Pirates jumped out to a 23-11 lead after a period, then put away the game with a 10-1 second quarter for a 33-12 halftime advantage.

For the game, Williams, who was crowned homecoming queen by Cooper, scored a game-high 21 points to lead Gore, followed by Moore with 18 points, Shoemake with 14 points, Daily with seven points and McEver and Alevia Reasnor with two points apiece.

In the girls’ loss to Central, the Lady Tigers doubled the Lady Pirates 12-6 in the first quarter, then used a 15-8 second period to take a 27-14 halftime lead, which became a 37-20 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Williams led Gore with 10 points, followed by Moore with eight points, Shoemake with six points, Daily and Reasnor with five points each and Sophie O’Connor with three points.

In the boys’ loss to Central, the Tigers jumped out to a 2110 lead after a period, which became a 34-18 halftime advantage and a 49-32 lead going into the fourth quarter.

In defeat, Cooper scored a game-high 22 points to lead Gore, followed by Brooksher with 15 points and Rowe with two points.

In the boys’ road win over Hulbert, trailing 36-25 at halftime, the Pirates outscored 41-23 in the second half to get the come-from-victory.

For the game, Gore put a quartet of players into double figures, led by Cooper’s game-high 19 points, followed by 14 points each from Brooksher and Munson and Rowe’s 12 points. Denton added seven points.

In the girls’ road loss at Hulbert, the Lady Riders jumped out to a 28-8 lead after a period and never looked back.

In defeat, Williams scored 16 points and Daily added 12 points to lead Gore, followed by Moore and O’Connor with six points each, Shoemake with four points and Reasnor with two points.

After making up the Jan. 29 snowed-out home games with Panama, the Gore teams will begin the Class A playoffs with the district tournament Saturday night on Chris Gillespie Court at Ray Henson Gymnasium in Talihina. The girls’ game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the boys’ contest at 7:30 p.m.
