Eastern Oklahoma State College softball team 8-2 over last two weeks
By David Seeley Sports Editor

Former Vian softball player Maisie Wells and the Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers went 8-2 over the last two weeks of action.

The Eastern Oklahoma State College Lady Mountaineers had a perfect weekend of softball at the Branson Turf’s Up Classic on Feb. 20-21 as they went 4-0.

On Feb. 20, the Lady Mountaineers blanked Southwestern Community College 5-0 and routed East Central College 16-3 in five innings, then capped the four-game, two-day event off with a 14-2 five-inning rout of Missouri State University- West Plains and an 8-0 five-inning win over State Fair Community College on Feb. 21.

In the win over SW Community College, Wells went 3-for-4 with her first homer of the season and two runs batted in, while going 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in the victory over East Central College.

In the victory over Missouri State-West Plains, Wells was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI, while hitting a single and scoring once in the win over State Fair Community College.

The Lady Mountaineers split their road doubleheader on Feb. 24 against the Arkansas-Rich Mountain Lady Bucks.

The Lady Mountaineers took the nightcap 8-6 after losing the opener 6-5 in 11 innings.

In the opener, Wells went 2-for-6, while she singled and scored once in the nightcap.

The Lady Mountaineers went 3-1 at last weekend’s Firelake JUCO Classic, which took place last Friday and Saturday at the Ballfields at Firelake in Shawnee.

Eastern defeated Carl Albert State College and Wells’ former teammate Kala Gibbins 8-0 in five innings before beating Arkansas-Rich Mountain 9-0 in five innings on Friday, but they split their Saturday games — losing 6-5 to Crowder, Mo., before beating Western Oklahoma State College 7-5.

In the win over CASC, Wells went hitless but scored twice, while she singled with an RBI against UA-Rich Mountain.

In the loss to Crowder, Wells was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, while she went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs against Western.

The Lady Mountaineers (11-5) were slated to play two games at Murray State College on Tuesday before entertaining Labette Community College in Wilburton for a 1 p.m. Thursday twinbill and then traveling to meet Northeastern Oklahoma A&M for a 2 p.m. DH next Tuesday.
