Vian Wolverines go 3-2 last week in baseball, playing in Ripley Tournament this week
By David Seeley Sports Editor

The Vian Wolverines baseball team went 3-2 last week on the diamond.

The Wolverines defeated Kansas 4-3 in eight innings on March 9 and Talihina 4-2 on March 10, both at home.

In last weekend’s Dewar Dragon Festival, the Wolverines beat Barnsdall 12-5 in five innings after losing 6-1 to Amber-Pocasset on Friday. They closed out the three-day festival with a 12-10 loss to the host Dragons on Saturday.

In the win over Kansas, Draighton Fletcher’s RBI doubled in the eighth inning broke a 3-all tie to walk it off for the Wolverines (5-3).

For the game, Fletcher was 2-for-4 with a double, his first home run of the season, three runs batted in and two runs scored for Vian.

Clayton Thomas (10) got the win in relief, going the final 3.2 innings with a strikeout. Michael Polecat got the start and went the first 4.1 innings with four Ks.

In the victory over Talihina, the Wolverines broke a 2-all tie with a two-run fifth inning.

For the game, Clayton Thomas doubled with a run batted in, Drake Collins singled with an RBI and a run scored, Fletcher singled and scored once, Riley Ellis and Jeremiah Marshall each singled with an RBI.

Christ Cheater (2-0) got the complete-game win, getting four strikeouts in seven innings.

In the win over Barnsdall in the Dewar Festival, the Wolverines broke a 1-all tie with an eight-run fourth inning. A three-run fifth inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Polecat (2-1) got the win, fanning five batters in five innings.

In the loss to Amber-Pocasset in the Dewar Festival, the Panthers scored twice in each of the first two innings for a 4-0 lead, an advantage they never relinquished.

In defeat, Ellis was 2-for-3 for Vian.

Polecat suffered his first loss of the season, striking out three batters in six innings.

In the loss to the host Dragons in the Dewar Festival, the Dragons took a 7-3 lead after three innings. The Wolverines cut their deficit to 7-6 in the fifth inning but got no closer.

In defeat, Collins was 3-for-4 with a double, and three RBIs, Polecat was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Thomas was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored and Zayden Cheater was 2-for-3 with his first homer of the season and three RBIs for Vian.

Rylan Lane (0-1) suffered the loss, going the first 2.2 innings with three strikeouts. Thomas went the final 3.1 innings with a strikeout.

There was to have been a game with Gore last Thursday in the Dewar Festival, but two Wolverines players while on defense collided going for the same ball in the first inning. Coach John Brockman said one of the two players is OK, but the other player suffered an fractured orbital bone and will find out this week if surgery is needed to repair the injury. The game ended up being postponed.

The Wolverines will play in the Ripley Spring Break Tournament, which will be Thursday through Saturday.
