Vian softball team beats Webbers Falls, Roland, suffer four losses last week

The Vian lady Wolverines slow-pitch softball team went 2-4 last week on the diamond.

The Lady Wolverines beat Webbers Falls 10-3 in six innings but lost 14-3 in five innings to Gore on April 6 at Armstrong Park. On April 7, the Lady Wolverines lost 8-4 to the host Central Lady Tigers before falling 4-2 at Fort Gibson last Thursday.

Last Friday, the Lady Wolverines split their games in the Warner Tournament, beating Roland 13-10 but losing 15-3 to Sequoyah-Tahlequah.

In the win over Webbers Falls, the Lady Wolverines (8-11) broke a 3-all tie with a five-run second inning for an 8-3 lead. A two-run sixth inning put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Tressa Sandlin was 2-for-4, Leila Cheater was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Jordyn Cowett was 2-for-3 with a runs cored and Rayleigh Terrill doubled and scored once for Vian. Terrill (8-11) got the win as she recorded four strikeouts in six innings.

In the loss to Gore, the Lady Pirates scored five runs in the first inning and three runs in the third inning for an 8-0 lead. A four-run fifth inning put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Kaidence Roark was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, Halli Russell was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Raylan McEver was 2-for-2 with two runs scored for Vian. Terrill suffered the loss.

In the loss to Central, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after an inning and enjoyed a 7-2 advantage after two innings.

In defeat, Eden Girty was 4-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, Russell doubled with an RBI and Cowett doubled with an RBI and a run scored for the Lady Wolverines. Terrill took the loss.

In the loss to Fort Gibson, the Lady Tigers broke a scoreless tie with a four-run second inning. The Lady Wolverines scored single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to cut their deficit to 4-2 but got no closer.

In defeat, Sandlin was 2-for-4 with a run scored, Roark was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Russell was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Leila Cheater was 2-for-3 for Vian. Terrill suffered the loss.

In the win over Roland, the Lady Wolverines had a 3-1 lead after an inning and 11-6 advantage in the fourth inning.

For the game, Girty was 4-for-4 with a triple, three runs scored and two RBIs, LaKoeta Cheater was 4-for-5 with four RBIs, Leila Cheater was 4-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI, Scarlett Fields was 4-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, Russell was 3-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI, Aubree Craighead was 3-for-5 and Sandlin was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI for Vian. Terrill got the win.

There was no more information reported on the Sequoyah-Tahlequah game by press time.

The Lady Wolverines found out their assignment for next week’s Class 4A District Tournament. Vian and Beggs were sent to Warner.
