Webbers Falls Warriors go 3-2 last week in baseball action

The Webbers Falls Warriors enjoyed a 3-2 week last week in their five baseball games played.

The week began with a 7-6, 10-inning road loss to Wetumka on April 6 before the Warriors routed the Union Christian Academy Eagles 20-6 in six innings on April 7 in Fort Smith, Ark., and defeated Strother 12-4 last Thursday near Seminole.

After losing 3-2 in eight innings at Konawa last Friday, the Warriors routed the Alex Longhorns 15-3 in four innings last Saturday in Alex.

In the loss to Wetumka, the Chieftains forced extra innings with a run in the seventh inning to tie the game at 5-all. After each team scored once in the eighth inning, the Chieftains scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning.

In defeat, Thadan Yandell was 4-for-6, Brock Rhoden was 3-for-4, Gunner Shelby was 2-for-6 with a double and two runs scored, Brutus Robinson was 2-for-5 with a run batted and a run scored, Clayton Roberts was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Rocky Greenfield doubled with two RBIs for the Warriors (9-7).

Trysten Wilbourn (04) suffered the loss in relief, giving up the gamewinning run in the 10th inning. Robinson got the start and went the first 4.2 innings with nine strikeouts. Shelby went the next 4.1 innings with eight Ks.

In the win over UCA, the Warriors jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then put the game into run-rule status with a six-run sixth inning.

For the game, Robinson was 2-for-5 with four runs scored and three runs batted in, while Shelby doubled and scored four runs for Webbers Falls.

Cason Newcomer (1-0) got his first win of the season, going 4.2 innings with a strikeout. Austin Barger went the final 1.1 innings with a strikeout.

In the win over Strother, leading 2-0 after an inning, a 10run third inning for the Warriors put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Shelby was 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs scored and an RBI for Webbers Falls.

In the loss to Konawa, the Tigers got the walkoff win in the eighth inning after the Warriors tied the game at 2-all in the seventh inning to force extra innings.

In defeat, Hayden Stephens signed with an RBI and a run scored, while Yandell, Wilbourn and Roberts each singled for Webbers Falls.

Shelby (4-1) was the hard-luck loser as he went 7.1 innings with four strikeouts.

In the rout of Alex, the Warriors broke a 3-all tie with a three-run second inning, a fiverun third inning and a four-run fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

For the contest, Robinson was 3-for-4 with two doubles, five RBIs and two runs scored, Shelby was 2-for-3 withy four runs scored and two RBIs and Yandell was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored.

Robinson (5-0) got the win in relief, going four innings with eight Ks. Newcomer started but did not record an out in the opening inning.

The Warriors were awarded a Class A, Division II District Tournament next week as they will play the Keota Lions in the best-of-3 series for the district championship.
