Vian Wolverines go 3-2 last week on the diamond
By David Seeley Sports Editor,

The Vian Wolverines went 3-2 last week in action on the diamond.

The Wolverines started the week with two straight home wins, 12-0 in three innings over Central on April 20 and 6-5 over Pocola on April 21.

At the Dibble Festival, the Wolverines defeated Christian Heritage Academy Crusaders 6-5 last Thursday but lost to the host Dibble Demons 7-2 later that day. They ended their two-day stay with a 12-0 three-inning loss to the Dale Pirates last Friday afternoon.

Last Saturday’s road game at Warner was rained out. It is uncertain if the game will be rescheduled prior to next week’s Class 2A, Division I Regional Tournament.

In the win over Central, Vian pitcher Draigton Fletcher threw a three-inning no-hitter.

Fletcher (3-3) struck out two batters in his three-inning no-hitter. Only five batters reached base.

The Wolverines (1815) broke a scoreless deadlock with a ninerun second inning. A three-run third inning put the game into runrule status.

For the contest, Jeremiah Marshall was 3-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Colten Smith was 2-for-2 with a double, four RBIs and a run scored, Fletcher doubled with an RBI and Michael Polecat doubled and scored twice for Vian.

In the victory over Pocola, the Wolverines rallied from a 5-0 deficit with a five-run third inning to tie the game, then won the game with a run in the sixth inning.

For the game, Manny Terrill was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and a run scored, while Drake Collins was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Vian.

Chris Cheater (3-1) got the win, going the first six innings with two strikeouts. Clayton Thomas got his second save of the season, pitching a scoreless seventh inning with two strikeouts.

In the win over Christian Heritage Academy, the Wolverines won in walk-off fashion with a two-run seventh inning to cap the come-from- behind win.

For the game, Polecat was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Terrill was 2-for-2 with a run scored, Riley Ellis was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Fletcher doubled and scored once for Vian.

Polecat (7-3) got the win, going all seven innings with three strikeouts.

In the loss to Dibble, the Demons rallied from a 2-1 deficit with a three-run third inning, a two-run fourth inning and a single run in the fifth inning to get the comeback victory.

In defeat, Fletcher was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored for Vian.

Thomas (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season in relief, pitching an inning with two strikeouts. Terrill got the start and went the first two innings with two strikeouts. Zayden Cheater went the 2.1 innings in relief with a strikeout, then Marshall got the final two outs, both by strikeout.

In the loss to Dale, Dale pitcher Chase Harris threw a three-inning no-hitter with six Ks.

The Pirates got Harris all the run support he needed with a four-run first inning. A two-run third inning and a sixrun third inning put the game into run-rule status.

Fletcher took the loss, going 2.1 innings.

The Wolverines should know by either the end of this week or the start of next week as to where they will be sent and with whom they will be paired for next week’s Class 2A, Division I Regional Tournament.
